Gooseneck Lowbed Series

Extendable Lowbed Trailers

CHENLU extendable lowbed trailers add deck length for machinery, beams, steel sections and other cargo that will not fit a fixed lowbed. The dropped deck keeps the cargo lower than it would sit on a flat platform, while the gooseneck connects the trailer to the tractor. The final extension length and axle layout must follow the cargo weight, support points and route.

Extendable or Fixed Lowbed

When should you choose an extendable lowbed instead of a fixed lowbed?

An extendable deck solves a length problem, not every heavy-haul problem. It makes sense when a long machine or structural load needs more supported deck than a fixed lowbed can provide. The cargo drawing should decide how far the deck must open.

01 / Cargo Support

Start with the supported length, not the overall cargo length

Measure where the load can bear on the deck and where its weight is concentrated. A long load may still need a different support arrangement if its bearing points do not line up with the extended deck.

02 / Extension Length

Open the deck only as far as the load needs

Do not choose the longest extension from a catalogue without checking the cargo. Match the working deck length to the required support span, load position and weight distribution shown in the transport drawing.

03 / Route Space

Check the route with the trailer extended

Yard turns, junctions, bridge approaches and loading sites can limit a long combination. Review the working length, rear swing, ground clearance and route restrictions in the same layout that will carry the cargo.

04 / Loading Method

Choose the gooseneck separately from the deck extension

Deck extension and gooseneck operation solve different problems. A removable neck can provide front loading for suitable machinery, while a fixed neck needs another loading path. Choose the neck from the machine and the way it will enter the trailer.

Longer is not automatically better. Send CHENLU the cargo drawing, operating weight, centre of gravity, support points, tractor details and route before the extended layout is confirmed.

Buyer FAQ

What should you check before ordering an extendable lowbed trailer?

Is an extendable lowbed the same as an extendable lowboy or telescopic low loader?
These names often describe the same broad trailer family in different markets. “Lowboy” is common in North America, while “lowbed” and “low loader” are widely used elsewhere. The name does not confirm the extension system, deck height, gooseneck type or rating, so compare the actual drawing.
What cargo is an extendable lowbed trailer used for?
It is used when a machine or structural load needs more supported deck length than a fixed lowbed provides. Long machinery, beams and steel sections are common examples. Final fit depends on the cargo dimensions, operating weight, support points and centre of gravity.
How far can the lowbed deck extend?
There is no single extension length for the full series. It depends on the frame design and the locking positions provided on the selected model. Ask CHENLU for both the closed and extended deck dimensions on the quotation drawing.
Does the payload stay the same when the deck is extended?
Do not assume that a closed-deck rating applies at every extension position. Allowable loading can depend on the extension length, support span and where the weight sits between the kingpin and axle group. Check the load diagram for the planned cargo position.
Does an extendable lowbed always have a detachable gooseneck?
No. Deck extension and gooseneck operation are separate choices. A model may use a fixed or removable neck, and front loading is available only when the quoted arrangement provides it. Confirm the neck type instead of treating every extendable lowbed as an RGN trailer.
Can the trailer travel with the deck extended?
Do not assume that every extension position is a transport position. Use the drawing and operating instructions supplied for the quoted model. The locked extension, cargo support, overall length, axle loading, ground clearance and route must be checked together.
What does CHENLU need for an extendable lowbed quotation?
Send the cargo drawing or its length, width, height and operating weight. Add the centre of gravity, support points, loading method, tractor details, route, destination country and any required standard.
