Why use 5182 aluminum for a fuel tanker trailer?

CHENLU uses 5182 aluminum for the tanks in this range. It is lighter than steel and can be formed and welded for tank fabrication. Those advantages only become useful when the plate condition, thickness, joints and fuel compatibility are correct for the design.

01 / Tare Weight

Reduce tare before counting payload

Aluminum is less dense than steel. A 5182 tank can therefore reduce trailer tare compared with a similar steel design, leaving more room under a fixed combination-weight limit. Use the approved weight calculation for the actual difference.

02 / Forming

Shape the tank from the specified sheet

5182 is an aluminum-magnesium sheet alloy with good formability. The selected temper and thickness affect rolling, bending and the finished tank shape, so both belong in the drawing and material order.

03 / Welding

Specify the joints, not only the alloy grade

5182 has good weldability, but the alloy number does not define a finished weld. The joint design, filler material, welding procedure and inspection requirements should be recorded for the tank being supplied.

04 / Service

Corrosion resistance still needs a cargo check

5182 offers useful corrosion resistance, but no aluminum tank suits every liquid or operating environment. Confirm the exact fuel, water and cleaning exposure, then use the approved maintenance and repair method for the finished trailer.

5182 is the tank material, not the complete tanker specification. Ask CHENLU to confirm the material certificate, temper, plate thickness, tank drawing, weld procedure, tare and payload calculation, and destination requirements before production.
