Machinery Transport Trailers

Low Bed Trailers

A low bed trailer carries the load on a deck below the height of a standard flatbed. That lower deck leaves more clearance for excavators, loaders, bulldozers and other tall machinery. CHENLU models use different loading arrangements, including rear ramps or a detachable gooseneck, so the machine dimensions, weight and ground clearance should be checked against the selected model.

Low Bed Trailer Loading

Rear ramps or a detachable gooseneck?

One useful difference between low bed trailers is how the machine reaches the deck. Rear-loading models use ramps, while a detachable-gooseneck trailer opens at the front. Ground clearance and loading space usually decide which layout is more practical.

01 / Machine Fit

Measure the machine as it will travel

Use the transport length, width and height, not only the machine model. Include the boom, bucket, counterweight or other attachment in its travel position. Track or wheel width and ground clearance affect how the machine approaches and sits on the deck.

02 / Rear Loading

Load from behind the trailer

With a rear-loading lowbed, the machine climbs onto the deck over the rear ramps. Check the ramp width and approach angle against the tracks or tyres. The loading site also needs enough straight space behind the trailer.

03 / Front Loading

Lower the front approach with a detachable neck

After the gooseneck is disconnected, the front of the deck can be lowered for drive-on loading. This can suit machines with limited ground clearance or jobs with frequent loading. Confirm the coupling sequence and available working space for the selected model.

04 / Route Fit

The lowest deck is not always the right deck

A lower deck helps control the loaded height, but it also leaves less clearance beneath the trailer. Check steep entrances, uneven construction roads and ferry ramps together with bridges and other overhead restrictions.

Select from the machine outward. Compare the machine, loading site and route first; then confirm the deck layout, axle arrangement and tractor connection on the quotation drawing.

Buyer FAQ

What should buyers check before ordering a low bed trailer?

What is a low bed trailer used for?
A low bed trailer carries excavators, loaders, bulldozers and other machinery that benefits from a loading deck below standard flatbed height. The lower deck helps reduce the machine's loaded height, subject to the trailer and route dimensions.
Is a low bed trailer the same as a lowboy trailer?
The names often overlap, but usage changes by market. Lowboy is common in North America, while low bed, lowbed and low loader are widely used elsewhere. Compare the deck, gooseneck and loading method instead of relying on the name alone.
Should I choose rear ramps or a detachable gooseneck?
Rear ramps load the machine from behind the trailer and require enough approach space. A detachable gooseneck allows front loading and can provide a lower approach angle. The machine's ground clearance, track or wheel layout and loading site should decide the method.
Which machine measurements are needed before selecting a lowbed?
Record the transport length, width, height and weight with the planned attachments fitted. Track or wheel width, ground clearance and the position of concentrated weight also affect the deck and loading arrangement.
How many axles should a low bed semi trailer have?
Axle count cannot be selected from cargo weight alone. Load position, axle and kingpin distribution, tractor configuration, route limits and destination requirements must be reviewed together. Confirm the final arrangement on the quotation drawing.
Is the lowest possible deck always the best choice?
No. A lower deck can reduce loaded height, but it also reduces clearance beneath the trailer. Steep entrances, uneven site roads and ferry ramps must be checked together with bridges and other overhead restrictions.
What information does CHENLU need for a low bed trailer quotation?
Send the machine name, transport dimensions, weight, attachments, ground clearance and preferred loading method. Include the tractor, destination, route conditions, quantity and any known local requirements.
