Special-Purpose Transport
Special-Purpose Semi-Trailers
CHENLU’s current special-purpose trailer range covers two distinct transport tasks. Car carrier trailers use dedicated decks and ramps for road vehicles. Curtain side trailers open along the body so forklifts can reach suitable palletized, packaged or long freight while it remains covered in transit. The cargo and loading method should decide which collection to review.
Special-purpose trailer configuration
For a car carrier, send the complete vehicle list and loading sequence. For a curtain side trailer, send the cargo units, loading access and restraint plan. Include the tractor, route and destination market.

Uses, advantages and limitations
Car carrier vs curtain side trailer: what’s the difference?
A car carrier uses separate deck positions to transport road vehicles. A curtain side trailer opens along the side for freight loading. Their advantages come from the way each body handles its cargo: using space above the lower vehicles, or giving forklifts direct access to goods along the floor.
01 / Vehicle transport
Car Carrier Trailers
Used for moving passenger cars and SUVs between vehicle plants, ports, storage yards and dealerships.
Two decks make use of the space above the cars
A double-deck car carrier places vehicles on upper and lower tracks. This gives each car its own support while using the available trailer length at two levels. The benefit is carrying several vehicles together on regular delivery runs.
Ramps provide access from the yard
Running vehicles can drive onto the trailer through its loading ramps. Ground clearance and wheelbase matter at the ramp and where deck angles change. A long, low car may need a different approach from an SUV.
The vehicle mix limits the load
Taller SUVs leave less room between decks than lower cars. Vehicle weight and loaded height also affect how many can travel together. Open carriers leave the vehicles exposed to weather, and their tracks and upper decks offer limited flexibility for general freight.
Choose a car carrier for Regular vehicle deliveries where the deck layout suits the cars and SUVs your fleet actually moves.
02 / Pallets and packaged freight
Curtain Side Trailers
Used for pallets, crates and packaged materials that need side loading and cover during transport.
Forklifts can reach goods along the side
Opening the curtain gives access beside the load. This can help with long packages or deliveries where selected pallets need unloading at different stops. Access still depends on the position of the goods, the posts and the available yard space.
The cover stays attached to the trailer
The roof and closed curtains shield freight from rain and road spray. For suitable goods, this removes the need to spread and fold a loose tarpaulin at every stop. Curtain tension, roof condition and closures affect how well the cover works.
Openings and load restraint still matter
Tall packages must clear the side opening, and a fixed roof prevents crane loading from above. Ordinary curtains provide weather cover; cargo needs separate restraint. A body designed to help restrain the load must be used within its documented rating and loading conditions.
Choose a curtain side trailer for Pallet and packaged-goods routes where side access is useful and the cargo needs weather cover.
Loading and delivery
How do car carrier and curtain side trailers handle multiple deliveries?
A full trailer can serve one customer or several. When deliveries are split between stops, the position of each car or pallet affects what has to move before it can come off.
01 / Dealership deliveries
Car Carrier Trailers
Delivery order affects deck positions
On a car carrier, a vehicle for a later stop can block the one due to come off first. Moving it adds another unloading and reloading step. Deck positions therefore need to suit both the vehicle mix and the order of dealership deliveries.
Ramps need space at the delivery point
A car may fit the deck but still have limited clearance over a steep ramp or a change in angle. Ramp length, deck height and the space available behind the trailer affect access in dealership yards.
02 / Pallet deliveries
Curtain Side Trailers
Side access reaches goods for each stop
A curtain side trailer can give a forklift access to a selected pallet without taking out the freight behind it through the rear. Pallet orientation, the opening between posts and room alongside the trailer determine whether that direct access is possible.
Rear doors serve loading docks
A curtainsider with rear doors can serve yards using side loading and warehouses using rear unloading. Dock height and door clearance affect access. If a forklift enters the body, the floor must be rated for its wheel loads as well as the cargo it carries.
CHENLU / Buyer FAQ
Car Carrier & Curtain Side Trailer FAQs
How many cars can a car carrier trailer carry?
The count depends on the trailer layout and the vehicles loaded. Compact cars, long saloons and tall SUVs take up different amounts of deck space. Loaded height, deck ratings and axle loads can limit a load before every position is occupied. A loading drawing using the actual vehicle dimensions gives a more useful count than empty deck positions.
Can low-clearance cars be loaded on a car carrier?
Often, but not on every ramp arrangement. A low front bumper can touch at the start of a ramp. A long wheelbase can also leave the underside close to the ramp-to-deck transition. The car needs clearance along the whole loading path; deck height alone does not tell you whether it will fit.
Can it carry cars that do not run?
Only with suitable loading equipment. A car that cannot drive onto the ramps may need a rated winch or another approved loading method. A vehicle that rolls, steers and brakes is a different loading job from one with locked wheels. A winch must not be assumed to be standard equipment.
Are curtain side trailers waterproof?
They provide weather protection, but that is not a guarantee against all water ingress. The roof, curtain seams, overlaps and closures work together to keep out rain and road spray. Tears or poorly closed curtains reduce that protection. Moisture-sensitive cargo still needs packaging suited to its transport conditions.
Can a curtain side trailer be loaded by crane?
Top loading requires a roof and supporting structure designed to open above the cargo. Pulling back the side curtains does not remove a fixed roof. A lifting roof may give more side-entry height without creating a clear opening above the load. Lifting and retractable roofs are different features.
Do the curtains hold the cargo in place?
Ordinary curtains do not. Pallets and crates need suitable restraints or blocking to prevent movement. Some curtain systems or complete bodies are rated to contribute to load restraint, but only within documented loading conditions. A curtain's weather resistance does not prove that it can restrain the cargo.
